Martha Eies is currently serving as Lab Manager for bocar ba's research at the Department of Economics at Duke University, where she leads research, administrative, and communications activities. Since 2020, she has coordinated projects on alternatives to police response, police behavior, and the social dynamics of criminalization and public safety. She has contributed to papers in Science and the American Economic Journal, and is a co-author on "What Is the Best Response? Examining the Impact of Police and Their Alternatives," currently under revise-and-resubmit at the American Economic Review. This work is supported by Arnold Ventures.

Martha has extensive experience collecting and curating original datasets, including court filings, public agency records, and proprietary data from private companies. She has also contracted with the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Irvine, and brings more than ten years of prior strategic planning and management experience in the nonprofit sector.

Based in Minneapolis, MN, Martha holds a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Gender Studies from St. Olaf College and an M.F.A. in Devised Performance from the University of the Arts/Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training.
